Overview

It began in 1999 with the opening of Bandon Dunes. Designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd, the course is perched on a bluff high above the Pacific Ocean where mother nature's ever presence had already laid the blueprint for what would become one of golf's most iconic courses. The routing teases all of your senses before turning back home to the epicenter of the resort, unfolding along pristine native dunes where expansive ocean views are revealed numerous times during your journey. Beyond breathtaking scenery lies the game of golf in its truest form. This is a thinker's course. Winds are ever-present, and the varying elements create a new experience each time you play.

What Was Impressive

  • Everything

  • The views as you head to the ocean

  • Each hole is slightly different and can give you different challenges every single time you play it.  It could be rainy and windy one round and completely still and perfect the next day.

  • No matter how much it might be raining, the fairways very rarely get soggy and you can hit off them.  The greens are impressively fast as well even with weather

What Could Be Improved

  • They are backed up almost 18 months if you stay onsite.  Everyone is catching on to the majestic beauty of Bandon and it is hard to get a reservation

  • The course marshals are always present and want to make sure you stay on time.  This creates a little bit of a rush feeling as opposed to just taking it in

  • The weather does matter. If you are a fair weather golfer, then you may want to pay the extra money to play in the summer.

Amenities

  • The driving range and practice facility is top notch

  • The shuttle system is great and you do not need to ever drive your car if you stay onsite

  • There are restaurants on site and there is a cool Bunker Bar if you want to go down and play some cards or pool while having a drink or Cigar

Pro Tip: Get a Caddie!  It is worth it for the wind and putting lines.  Bandon is one of the more straight forward layouts but depending on what time of year you are there, the wind could be a 2-3 club difference.
